Creative ways to “keep the spark” during a pandemic

This pandemic requires everyone to stay indoors and only go out when necessary, which (at one point) makes it almost impossible for couples to go on a date. But who’s to say that you can’t be all lovey-dovey while staying at home? Although you can go on dates outside as long as you adhere to the rules and regulations, it is still advisable for you to stay at home. Taking into account the current unorthodox dating game, here are seven fun date ideas you can do to maintain, or better yet, improve your relationship during this pandemic.

Netflix, tickets for two!

Avoiding the cinemas? Try Netflix Party! (Not sponsored by Netflix, btw) This is especially fun for couples who just straight-up love watching movies together. Netflix Party allows you to watch Netflix with your friends (or in this case, your date) with synchronized video playback and an added group chat. That way, you can still watch your favourite shows and movies while being able to discuss who might be the killer or how will the show end, all in one sitting.

This is our playlist

Another date idea to keep your relationship fresh and interesting is to create a playlist for your date. Include your favourite songs or songs that remind you of each other and then swap playlists. You can also play around with words and create a playlist containing a message using words from song titles. Music brings people together, so hopefully, this can bring you and your partner closer than ever.e sitting.

I have something waiting for you at the door

Surprise your loved one with a gift (or a special food delivery from their favourite eatery)! You don’t necessarily have to go out to find the perfect gift. Nearly everything can be purchased online today. You can be creative and even go as far as to make the gift yourself. However, if you are not a crafty person, don’t fret! There are plenty of options out there, and all that’s left to do is to browse for the perfect gift.

“Clink!” on the laptop screen

This pandemic cannot stop you and your date from having a romantic evening. Unlike the typical video call, step up your dating game and reserve a virtual dinner for two instead! Whether you plan on making yourself a homemade dinner or just order takeout, you can effortlessly make it into a romantic date. Light up some candles, dim the lights, and spruce up your look, just like you would on your usual dates. Although you might be far from each other, just pretend that both of you are at a fancy restaurant somewhere, enjoying each other’s presence.

P/s: Don’t forget to write back soon

Just like our parents once did, bring back the love letters. Give your phone a break for a few weeks and try your best to write the sweetest love letter. This time, there can be no emojis, stickers, or GIFs. Alternatively, use intimate and meaningful words to connect with each other. Say kind things, share what you have been doing and thinking, and include some motivational quotes for them to get by. Post the letter and wait for a reply, just like the old days.

1.. 2.. 3.. Sing it with me!

It is always a good idea to have a karaoke date with your partner. Not only is it extremely fun but it is also a good way to release stress, especially now that we are dealing with a pandemic. There are plenty of online karaoke apps available (or just go on YouTube), all you need to do is to choose one, pick your favourite song and sing it together! If either one of you can play musical instruments, start a jam session!

Let the games begin

Other than virtual dinner and karaoke dates, you can also play games with your partner online. There is no limitation as to what game you can play together. Be it a simple card game or a shooting game—it is all up to you two. To make it more fun, set a friendly bet so that the loser will have to pay for dinner or buy the winner a small gift. Make it up as you go! The key is to just have fun!
